Agodsend For Mothers On The Go!

It's that time of year again! I call it berry time. It's the time of year when berries are so plentiful that they go on sales at all of the
supermarkets...as long as you buy in bulk. Two pints of blue berries for $4, 2 pounds of strawberries for $5...Blackberries, rasberries; they are all on
sale.  Many people worry that if they buy the fruit in bulk, it will spoil before they get to eat it. Indeed, we've all bought fruit that looked great in the store, but by the next day was sprouting mold in your refrigerator.

An easy way to lessen  the chance that your berries quickly sprout mold is to wash them with vinegar. My sister shared this with me a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to test it before passing it along. I am happy to say, it works great! Here's how to do it: Take one spoonful of vinegar and mix it with a cup of water in a bowl. Allow the fruit to soak for about a minute. Then simply drain the bowl and rinse the fruit in water and put it in the fridge. The vinegar will kill any mold spores and you will find that your berries will last longer. Although I was skeptical, I must say that  the fruit does seem to last longer, and the best part is that I have yet to taste any vinegar on my berries.

Now that you can stock up on berries without worrying that they are going to spoil quickly, you may want to grab this book ( Luscious Berry Dessertsso that you have some creative ways to use them! And remember, good berries lead to happy kids...and in the end, isn't that what we are all striving for?
